Museums have been preserving our most treasured pieces of art and history since 530 BCE. During that time, they’ve also had another super important role: sharing that knowledge with young visitors to spark learning. With so many museums closed, we identified 15 institutions that have brought their collections online and now offer virtual museum tours for kids.

British Museum, London


The British Museum teamed up with Google to create one of the most in-depth educational experiences available. Their virtual tour spans over 2 million years of artistic and cultural history, and tells the history of humanity through archaeological findings such as ancient paintings and tools!

The Exploratorium, San Francisco

Harry Potter Exhibition: The British Library, London


The British Library’s Harry Potter exhibition is an engaging and magical experience with beautiful imagery and videos that take you through the wizarding world of Harry Potter. Complete with original authors’ notes and behind-the-scenes details, the exhibition also shows how J.K. Rowling transformed a tiny idea into an international phenomenon.

The J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles


Including artwork ranging from the eighth through the twenty-first century, the Getty collection features paintings, drawings, sculptures, and more. Guests can participate in the Getty Challenge — a playful social media call to take real-life photos inspired by Getty artwork!

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Los Angeles


The largest art museum in the western United States, LACMA’s collection includes over 142,000 unique works. Their permanent collection of artwork has been uploaded for visitors to browse to online. The Louvre, Paris

MASP, São Paulo


The Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP), Brazil’s first modern museum, features 8,000 works including paintings, sculptures, and more from Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. MASP partnered with Google to create a virtual museum collection showcasing both historical artifacts and modern pieces.
